Sarawak Premier Arrives In Nanjing For Working Visit


NANJING, 10 December 2025 – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, touched down in Nanjing today, commencing an auspicious three-day working visit to Jiangsu province, China. 

The Premier flew in from Bangkok where he delivered a keynote address at the International Water Association (IWA) conference. 

Upon arrival at Nanjing Lukou International Airport, the Premier and his delegation were received by Petros’ chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo and Petros’ Senior Vice President for Human Capital, Corporate Relations and Services, Tuan Haji Ismail Said. 

Also on hand to greet the Premier were China Jiangsu International Ltd (CJI) chairman, Song Qinbo and CJI Vice President, Deng Yajun. 

The visit, scheduled from 10th to 12th December 2025, will include signing of an agreement between Petros and CJI as anchor partner for the development of the Kuching Low Carbon hub as well as engagements with parties  in both the Nanjing and the neighbouring industrial hub of Suzhou.

Accompanying the Premier are key figures from Sarawak’s energy ecosystem, including Datuk Haji Ibrahim Haji Baki, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS); Group Chief Executive Officer of PETROS, Dato Janin Girie and PETROS’ Senior Vice President for Growth, Datuk Joseph Podtung.

Jiangsu province, with its strong industrial base and focus on high-tech development, is seen as an ideal partner for Sarawak, which is rich in hydropower resources and is aggressively pursuing a green hydrogen economy. 

The outcomes are anticipated to contribute directly to Sarawak’s Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which targets sustainable economic growth and net-zero carbon emissions.
